TraveLing — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 30 September, 2026
TraveLing (the “Game”) is developed and operated by Raleigh Butler (“we,” “us,” “our”). This policy explains what information the Game collects and how it is used. We kept it short because the honest answer is: the Game collects very little.
The short version
- Your progress saves live on your device — we never see them.
- When you chat with an animal villager, your typed message is sent over an encrypted connection to our server and then to Google’s Gemini service to generate the villager’s reply. Nothing in the message identifies you.
Information stored on your device
The Game stores save files in your device’s app storage: your progress, the season and time of day, your fox’s songs, and your activity history. These files stay on your device. They are never sent to us or to anyone else, and you can erase them at any time by deleting the Game from your device. If you choose the optional “use my own API key” setting, the key you enter is stored only on your device, in the same way.
Information sent off your device (villager chat)
When you type a message to a villager, the Game sends that message over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our relay server, which forwards it to Google’s Gemini service (the “AI Service”) to generate the villager’s response. Along with your message, the Game includes a small amount of context needed for the reply to make sense, such as the current season and time of day in the Game, the villager’s name and location, the recent conversation with that villager, your fox’s current mood, and the title of the song your fox is learning.
- Not linked to you. The Game has no accounts and sends no name, email, device identifiers, or advertising IDs. Nothing in the conversation is linked to an individual.
- Not retained by us. Our relay server processes the message to obtain a reply and does not store the conversation. Processing of the message by the AI Service is governed by Google’s terms, available at developers.google.com/terms and policies.google.com/privacy.
- Content safeguards. Messages are screened by automatic filters, and inappropriate topics receive a fixed refusal reply rather than an answer.
- Optional direct mode. If you configure your own Google API key, your messages go directly from your device to Google under that key, without passing through our server.
What we don’t do
- No advertising, no ad networks, no tracking pixels or SDKs.
- No analytics or crash-reporting services.
- No collection of precise or coarse location.
- No contact, photo, microphone, or camera access.
- No sale, rental, or sharing of any data with third parties for their own purposes.
Children
TraveLing is an all-ages game with no age-gated content. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children or from anyone else, because the Game does not collect personal information at all. If you believe a child has typed personal details into the villager chat, feel free to contact us — but be assured that nothing typed is stored by us, and nothing can be linked back to a person.
Security
All communication with our server uses HTTPS/TLS encryption. Because the Game collects no personal data, there is no database of user information to breach.
International users
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a jurisdiction with similar laws: the brief transmission described above is processed by us solely to deliver the function you asked for (generating a villager reply), which requires no consent banner; we do not profile you, and there is no automated decision-making. Because the Game collects no identifying data, requests such as access, correction, or erasure of personal data are satisfied by simply deleting the Game (and its local saves) from your device. You may also contact us with any question or complaint, and you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
Changes to this policy
If the Game changes in a way that affects privacy, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be described here when you visit.
